Stephen A. Wieder is a special counsel in the Commercial Litigation and the Intellectual Property Litigation groups and a member of the Cooley Litigation department. Mr. Wieder joined Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman in 1993, which was merged into Cooley Godward Kronish in 2006. He is resident in the New York office. His recent representations include the defense of XM Radio in a copyright infringement action brought by a number of music recording companies, the defense of two insurance companies in a billion dollar case brought by JPMorgan Chase and arising out of the Enron bankruptcy; the defense of Sumitomo Corporation in antitrust litigations arising out of the actions of a rogue copper trader and the development of claims on behalf of Sumitomo against Merrill Lynch arising out of the same trading scandal. Mr. Wieder received a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1989, and a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Yeshiva University in 1986, where he majored in Political Science. Mr. Wieder is a member of New York City Bar Association. Mr. Wieder is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Second, Seventh and Federal Circuits, the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Central District of Illinois, as well as the courts of New York State.
