Julie Wicklund, Special Counsel

Julie D. Wicklund is Special Counsel in the Cooley Business department and the head of the International practice group.  Resident in the Palo Alto office, she joined the Firm in March 1999.

She has a general business and corporate practice with an emphasis on international business transactions and mergers and acquisitions.  Ms. Wicklund works extensively with U.S. corporations conducting business overseas and regularly advises foreign corporations and investors doing business in the U.S.  Ms. Wicklund provides strategic advice and counseling to technology and life sciences companies expanding their sales, marketing, development and manufacturing capabilities overseas, and advises on cross-border M&A transactions by public and private companies.  She also advises European and Asia-Pacific clients transacting business in the US, including the setting up of US operations and "flip" transactions bringing foreign companies to the US for venture capital or private equity financing.

Before joining Cooley, Ms. Wicklund qualified as a lawyer in the U.K. and worked with Lovells, the London based international law firm, and also spent time on assignment to Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago.  She ran the Investment Teams of the U.K. Trade and Investment offices in Atlanta and San Francisco, assisting U.S. businesses with their European business development.

Ms. Wicklund graduated from The College of Law in Guildford, England; completed post-graduate studies in law at Nottingham Law School, England and received her B.A. (Hons) from Middlesex University.

Ms. Wicklund is the contributing author of several publications on global expansion by U.S. businesses and is an active member of the international business community in Silicon Valley.  She is a Director of the British American Business Council for Northern California and Vice President for the Silicon Valley section of the BABC.  Ms. Wicklund is also a director and the secretary of South Beach Yacht Club in San Francisco.

Ms. Wicklund is admitted in California and is also admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales.  She is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California, including the International Section of the ABA.  Ms. Wicklund is also a member of the Law Society of England and Wales.
