With Cooley Godward Kronish’s deep roots in the technology world, our clients turn to us with an ever expanding array of novel issues at the intersection of the law and the Internet. We formed the Internet Law Practice group to serve as a resource for our clients as they confront these issues.

interview_graphicOur group consists of experienced litigators and counselors who represent and advise clients on matters concerning Internet-related technologies, e-commerce, online speech and conduct and associated intellectual property issues. Our wide-ranging areas of practice include copyright, trademark, patent, online speech and conduct, privacy, consumer rights, network security and online contracting. We are dedicated to offering the most current, creative and comprehensive advice and representation, applying both longstanding and newly developed legal provisions and principles.

For example, we have worked with clients to draft and enforce valid online license and click-through agreements, structure business practices to comply with statutes governing online information and communications, prepare privacy policies compliant with domestic and international laws, ensure the security of network infrastructure, police against misuse of intellectual property and confidential information and resolve a variety of consumer and competitor claims. Our years of experience working with online and other technology companies enables us to offer practical advice that assists our clients in meeting their objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

Additionally, as our list of representative cases reflects, we have successfully litigated cutting-edge issues affecting online commerce, property rights, speech and conduct. We have frequently litigated these issues under the major statutes addressing Internet commerce—including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Communications Decency Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act—as well as under copyright, trademark, patent and unfair competition laws as applied to Internet activities. Our litigators have also handled several notable cases, in both trial and appellate courts, dealing with novel constitutional and jurisdictional issues. We understand the value of not only knowing and applying the law, but shaping it in a way that better enables our clients to develop and deploy value-maximizing business strategies.
