Eligibility Requirements
Eligible prime applicants include non-profit and for-profit private entities, institutions of higher education, state and local governments, and Indian tribes. Eligible sub-recipients include (a) foreign entities whose effort, in aggregate, does not exceed 33% of the total project costs and who provide the minimum required cost share for its own portion of the project, and (b) Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCS), National Laboratories and federal agencies with scope and budget less than 20% of the total project cost.
Program Description
In this FOA the Department of Energy (DOE) focuses on areas associated with geothermal energy, including the validation of innovative exploration technologies, geothermal energy production from non-conventional resources, and geothermal data development, collection and maintenance. The DOE’s Geothermal Technologies Program (GTP) intends to continue its partnership with the geothermal community on geothermal systems research, exploration, demonstration, and development throughout the United States.
Cost Sharing
- Topic Area 1: The DOE is seeking recipient cost share of at least 20% for Phase I and 50% for Phases II and III. However, they will consider a minimum cost share as low as 10% for Phase I and 25% for Phases II and III.
- Topic Area 2: The DOE is seeking recipient cost share of at least 50% of the total project costs. However, they will consider a minimum cost share as low as 25%.
- Topic Area 3: Recipient cost share is not required.
