Anna B. Pope is a partner in the Cooley Business department. She is resident in the San Francisco office and has been with the Firm since 1984. Ms. Pope is Co-chair of the Firm's National Real Estate Leasing Group. She represents a full range of real estate clients, from technology clients with office and laboratory facilities throughout the country and the world, to private families with extensive ranch and vineyard holdings.
Company Facilities Practice: Ms. Pope's practice spans a wide range of real estate matters, including the leasing, acquisition and construction of corporate facilities. Some representative examples of her work in this area include the following:
- Applied Materials, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its acquisition of real estate facilities throughout the world
- Adobe Systems Incorporated - the representation of the company in connection with its acquisition of real estate facilities throughout the world
- nVidia Corporation – the representation of the company in connection with campus in Santa Clara, CA
- Acadia Pharmaceuticals, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its facilities in San Diego, CA
- Takeda San Francisco, Inc. - the representation of the company in connection with its headquarters lease in South San Francisco, CA
- Emisphere Technologies – the representation of the company in connection with its headquarters lease in Tarrytown, NY.
- Exelixis, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its campus in South San Francisco, CA
- Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its facilities, including its headquarters lease.
- BioFocus, DPI, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its laboratory facilities in San Diego, CA
- Maxim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. – the representation of the company in connection with its facilities in San Diego, CA
- Molecular Devices – the representation of the company in connection with its office and laboratory leases in California.
- Volterra Semiconductor Company – the representation of the company in connection with its lease in Fremont, CA.
- Venture Capital firms – the representation of numerous venture capital clients of the Firm in connection with their headquarters leases and leases for their portfolio companies.
Ranch and Vineyard Practice: A substantial portion of Ms. Pope's practice is devoted to representing clients with extensive vineyard and ranch holdings, including owners of vineyard and ranch lands in the Carmel, Capay, Sonoma and Napa Valleys. She has assisted clients with the acquisition and disposition of lands, and with the creation of conservation easements. Some representative examples of her work in this regard include:
- The representation, for the past twenty-five years, of the Bartholomew Park Foundation in its capacity as grape grower and as landlord to The Vineburg Company, the operator of The Bartholomew Park Winery
- The representation of a long established ranching family in connection with the creation of a conservation easement on a portion of a 20,000 acre ranch spanning Mendocino and Sonoma Counties
- The representation of a client in connection with the sale of a several hundred acre private reserve to The Peninsula Open Space District
- The representation of a group of investors in connection with the acquisition and ultimate disposition of an 800 acre vineyard in Carmel Valley
- The representation of a long established family in connection with the sale of prime vineyard land in Napa Valley
- The representation of a prominent family in connection with the purchase of vineyard land and establishment of a vineyard and winery in Capay Valley.
Ms. Pope earned her J.D. in 1984 from the University of California, Davis, School of Law. As an undergraduate, she attended the University of California, Davis, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and of Dobro Slovo, the National Slavic Honor Society. She earned a B.A. in 1981 with highest honors in Russian Language and Literature.
Ms. Pope is active in a number of charitable organizations, and is a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of The Merola Opera Program, a training program for young opera singers, coaches and stage directors affiliated with the San Francisco Opera.
She belongs to the American, California and San Francisco Bar Associations.
